Jam skating (a mixture of break dancing, hip hop dancing, gymnastics, and pop music) has made a comeback from the mid 70’s. Today, all across America in urban communities, the rollers rinks are full every Friday & Saturday night with Jam skaters.
One man with a camera, Tyrone Dixon went to 16 cities to capture this revolution of Jam skating in and around the roller rinks. This documentary isn’t focusing on the past, but on the present day in the African American communities.
Tyrone interviews some of the originators of Jam Skating from the 70’s as well as the youth of today (who’ve embrace Jam skating as their own). 8-Wheels has been a big inspiration of many, capturing the attention of director Malcolm Lee and helped inspire the 2005 Fox Searchlight Pictures release of “Roll Bounce” staring Bow Wow.
